We’re thrilled to announce that we have raised over $415,000 for cancer research at Peter Mac through the 2025 Peter Mac Cup!
This includes a generous $100K matched gift donation from the Pratt Foundation, and a $50K donation from, Strathmore Community Bank who sponsored this year’s Peter Mac Cup Breakfast.
On Thursday, 3 April, Carlton and Collingwood played for the 30th Peter Mac Cup at the MCG – the longest running charity match in the AFL/VFL. In front of a crowd of 82,058, Collingwood took home the cup, with a final score of 63 to 46.
Int was a moving moment, there was a special pre-game video encouraging everyone at the ground to stand in solidarity in honour of Peter Mac and those impacted by cancer.
Anthony Rocca, a former Collingwood and Sydney Swans player, whose AFL career spanned 15 years shared his cancer journey with us all through this year's pre-game moment. A video of Anthony sharing his story was played on the screens, before attendees held up their phones, lit up in honour of people impacted by cancer. It was a powerful moment of pause, together.
We are immensely grateful to both Collingwood FC and Carlton FC for your support. These two clubs come together each year, for something larger than footy.
As Collingwood captain Darcy Moore put it in his speech after the match;
“Collingwood and Carlton we are the fiercest of rivals, but for us to come together and channel that rivalry into this Peter Mac Cup game is super important. Obviously Carlton FC, your support and the way you've driven this game and this cause raising really important funds and importantly awareness to cancer which touches the lives of so many. We are truly honoured to play our part in this game so thank you so much.”
Over the course of 10 days in the lead up to the Peter Mac Cup match, we had several events and activities, this included;
Peter Mac Cup Breakfast: Over 400 guests attended the early morning breakfast on Monday 1 April. Hosted by Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones, we had former players, current players and coaches generously make time in their busy schedules to attend.
Hospital visits: Both Carlton and Collingwood players visited Peter Mac in Parkville and met with patients and staff which brought a lot of excitement into the cancer centre.
Training facility visit: Staff and patients were able to visit the players in their element – on their training fields!
Match day: Peter Mac patients, their families and staff were included in the guard of honour on the field as players ran on. Another highlight from the night was paediatric patient (and massive Pies fan), Jack, who joined with the Collingwood team as they ran through the banner before the game.
Thank you again to both teams for your continued support of the Peter Mac Cup, and congratulations to Collingwood on this year’s win! This brings the total Peter Mac Cup tally to 16-14 in Carlton’s favour.
Finally – thank you to everyone who donated in support of the Peter Mac Cup. Each year the Peter Mac Cup has grown, and we can’t wait for 2026!
